Harry Potter series
United Kingdom

Joanne Rowling (born 31 July 1965), known by her pen name J.K. Rowling, is a British author best known for writing the Harry Potter fantasy series, one of the best-selling book franchises in history with over 500 million copies sold worldwide and translated into more than 80 languages. Her books have inspired a global multimedia franchise, including blockbuster films, stage plays, video games, and theme park attractions.

Born in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, Rowling developed a love for storytelling from a young age. She conceived the idea for Harry Potter in 1990 during a train journey, but faced several rejections before the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (1997), was published. The series, spanning seven main books, follows the journey of young wizard Harry Potter as he battles dark forces, exploring themes of friendship, courage, and sacrifice.

Rowling has also written crime novels under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, including the Cormoran Strike series. She has received numerous literary awards and honors, and is noted for her philanthropic work through charities such as Lumos and Volant. Despite facing public controversies in later years, her influence on modern literature and popular culture remains profound.
