Enid Blyton

Famous Five series
United Kingdom

Enid Mary Blyton (11 August 1897 – 28 November 1968) was an English author whose adventure, mystery, and fantasy stories made her one of the most widely read children’s writers of the 20th century. Over her career, she wrote more than 700 books and numerous short stories, translated into nearly 90 languages, selling hundreds of millions of copies worldwide.

Born in East Dulwich, London, Blyton trained as a teacher before focusing on writing full time. Her first book, Child Whispers (1922), was a collection of poetry, but she became best known for her popular series, including The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, Noddy, and Malory Towers. Her works are characterized by fast-paced plots, clear moral lessons, and memorable characters that have captivated generations of young readers.

Although her books have occasionally faced criticism for outdated social attitudes, Blyton’s influence on children’s literature remains profound. Her stories have been adapted into films, television series, and stage plays, and her books continue to be enjoyed by readers around the world decades after her death in 1968.
